ABOUT NEW ORLEANS AIRLIFT

New Orleans Airlift is an artist-driven initiative that collaborates and creates alongside the artists we support for the mutual benefit and artistic fulfillment of all parties and the city at large.
The New Orleans Airlift was founded by musician and DJ Jay Pennington and Delaney Martin, a visual artist and curator, in response to the unparalleled destruction of Hurricane Katrina and its devastating aftermath which left city artists, like all New Orleanians, struggling for their lives and livelihoods.

The New Orleans Airlift recognized a need for new audiences who could support these artists as they rebuilt their city. Using an import/export model and a multi-disciplinary approach, the Airlift began to facilitate and create programming that took New Orleans’ art and its artists to far flung parts of the globe. In turn artists from abroad have been hosted in New Orleans for collaborative projects.

For more information about New Orleans Airlift, visit www.neworleansairlift.org.

ABOUT UNSCENE!

UNSCENE! is a monthly event series launched in October 2013. The goal of the series is to debut the innovative look, feel, tastes, smells, and sounds of Shreveport Common, a 9-block arts district in downtown Shreveport. The Residency Artists’ Series is underwritten by grants from two national “Creative Placemaking” organizations: the National Endowment for the Arts, ARTPLACE AMERICA, and the Community Foundation of North Louisiana.  Sponsors include BHP Billiton, KSLA News 12, Louisiana Lottery, Eagle Distributing, Aggreko, The Times, AEP Swepco, National Endowment for the Arts, ArtPlace America, The Community Foundation, City of Shreveport, Caddo Parish and SPAR.

In October 2013, UNSCENE! teamed with minicine?/ Swampland, INC to extend MSPS New Music Festival to include a Friday night ‘prelude’. For November, UNSCENE! partnered with the Texas Avenue Community Association’s Makers Fair.  December brought global arts group INSIDE OUT to Shreveport, pasting life size portraits on an abandoned parking garage. This year UNSCENE! celebrated the artistic elements of skateboarding with Steve Olson and UNveiled the public art installation, “Skateable Sculpture”, located in front of Municipal Auditorium. In April UNSCENE! partnered with Makers Fair and Holiday In Dixie to form THE BIG SCENE! with a special headline performance by Theresa Andersson.
